Hi Cheska, I think it is a popular myth that vaccines are simply a way for pharmaceutical companies to make money. The truth is, vaccines are not profit-makers for pharmaceutical companies. In fact, in 1967, there were 26 vaccine manufactures. That number dropped to 17 by 1980… and further dropped to the number today. Financial incentives to produce vaccines were so weak that there was growing concern that pharmaceutical companies were abandoning the vaccine business for selling more-profitable daily drug treatments. The flu vaccine is not perfect but it is still the first and best protection we have from the flu.
